Frequently Asked Questions
Dermal Fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar already present in the body. These injections replicate its function to restore fullness and enhance face shape, with preparations coming in a choice of thicknesses to tackle different areas. Fillers help your skin retain moisture, making it appear youthful. We stock all major brands.
Dermal fillers can be used to enhance and rejuvenate various areas of the face. Common areas where dermal fillers are applied include:
- Nasolabial Folds: These are the lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth.
- Marionette Lines: Lines that extend from the corners of the mouth downward.
- Cheeks: Dermal fillers can add volume to the cheeks, providing a lifted and more youthful appearance.
- Lips: Fillers are often used for lip augmentation to enhance volume and shape.
- Vertical Lip Lines: Lines around the lips, also known as “smoker’s lines” or “lipstick lines.”
- Under-Eye Hollows or Tear Troughs: Dermal fillers can reduce the appearance of dark circles and hollows under the eyes.
- Temples: Filling in hollow temples can create a more balanced and youthful facial structure.
- Chin: Dermal fillers can be used to reshape and add volume to the chin.
- Jawline: Filling along the jawline can improve definition and contour.
- Hands: Dermal fillers can be applied to the back of the hands to reduce the visibility of veins and tendons, providing a more youthful appearance.
It’s important to note that the choice of treatment areas depends on individual concerns, goals, and the expertise of the healthcare professional administering the fillers.
Furthermore, adding volume to one area may change the perception of another, therefore we will consider the entire face as a canvas prior to injecting.
You may experience a little pressure or a ‘stinging’ sensation, like a slight pinch, as they’re being injected. We use a combination of Hyaluronic Acid and anaesthetic to provide a comfortable treatment.
Results can last from a few months to many years, depending on the type of filler used, what area of the face or body is injected and your individual metabolism. Your injector will work with you in your consultation to achieve your desired outcome.
Treatments usually take between 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the amount of filler.
Dermal fillers, widely used for facial rejuvenation, come with inherent safety considerations, particularly concerning vascular occlusions. Vascular occlusions occur when the filler inadvertently enters blood vessels, impeding blood flow. Though infrequent, this complication can lead to severe consequences, including tissue necrosis.
Tissue necrosis, the death of cells due to inadequate blood supply, is a rare but severe consequence of vascular occlusions. When blood flow is compromised, tissues can undergo irreversible damage, leading to scarring and deformities.
Mitigating these risks involves meticulous injection techniques by highly trained professionals who understand facial anatomy. Additionally, practitioners must be vigilant in identifying early signs of vascular compromise and possess the skills to manage such complications promptly.
These complications are treated with Hyalase which Q-Tox always ensures that it has plenty on hand, and there are strict protocols on how we administer fillers to minimise the risk of vascular occlusions from occurring. Generally forehead and nose fillers are considered the most risky – as a result Q-Tox nurses do not inject fillers in these areas. This article summarises the risks – ABC News.
Other risks include bleeding, bruising and swelling although these generally subside in 4 – 14 days. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and excessive alcohol before and within 24 hours of the treatment to decrease the risk of bruising.
- No rubbing or massage of treated areas for at least 48 hours.
- Use Hydrate 24 hours after treatment.
- No strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
- Do not worry if treated areas feel firm, there will be some swelling, and possible bruises.
- No extreme hot and cold temperatures for 48 hours.
- Makeup application for 4 hours.
- If you experience any concerning pain, discolouration, or heat on the treated area, please contact us.
Fillers Before and Afters
Before and after photos are commonly used to showcase the effects Fillers, however, they may not always provide an accurate or complete comparison. At Q-Tox we take every step possible to ensure that our photos are accurate and tell the full story behind every patient journey.
When it comes to Fillers, what your friends have received may not necessarily look the same, or be appropriate for you as everyone’s facial profile is different.
In comparing any before and after consider differences in lighting. Lighting can significantly impact the appearance of the skin. Changes in lighting between the before and after photos can make the results appear more dramatic or subtle than they actually are.
The angle at which the photo is taken and the pose of the individual can also affect the perception of results. A slightly different angle can make the treated area look more or less pronounced.
Facial expressions and muscle movement can influence the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. A relaxed expression in the before photo compared to a smiling expression in the after photo, for example, can make it seem like there has been a greater improvement than there actually has been.
Photos can be edited or retouched to enhance the appearance of the results. This can include smoothing out skin texture, adjusting brightness and contrast, and even digitally altering the shape of the treated area. Such editing can make the results appear more dramatic than they are in reality.
The time elapsed between the before and after photos can also impact the perceived results. Swelling and bruising are common side effects of dermal filler injections, and they may take several days to subside completely. Therefore, the after photo may not accurately represent the final results.
Everyone’s anatomy and response to treatment are different. What works well for one person may not yield the same results for another. Therefore, before and after photos should be viewed as examples rather than guarantees of outcomes.
